Celebrating Adventure: Peter Frank's Journey at Aerie’s Resort

Updated: Nov 3

A Memorable Stay at Aerie’s Resort

At Aerie’s Resort, we see all kinds of people, but few have left such a lasting impression as our recent guest, Peter Frank. We're situated right on the bluffs of the Mississippi and Illinois rivers, so we've had the honor of hosting many incredible travelers over the years. But Peter? His story is something special. He just came through Grafton on his remarkable river expedition, and we were thrilled to be a part of it.

Peter is currently on a solo canoe journey. He’s been on the water for over 400 days, making his way from Canada to the Gulf and then back home again. He is nearing the end of his incredible trip. What makes his journey even more impressive? He's completely self-sufficient, making all his own clothing and self-preserving all his own food along the way. His visit to Grafton happened to be his birthday weekend! We were truly honored to host him, giving him a place to rest and recharge as he celebrated another year of life and adventure.

His journey is a testament to the American spirit. We encourage you to follow along with his travels at whereispeterfrank.com. You can also find daily posts and videos on his Facebook group, Peter's Voyage, and his Instagram, captainpeterfrank. He showcases the world from a point of view that few have the courage to experience.

Thrilling Adventures Await

While he was here, we wanted to give him a taste of our own adventures. We gave him complimentary passes for our SkyTour and the Aerie’s Alpine Coaster. Peter joked about going from 3 miles an hour on the river to 30 miles an hour on the coaster, but the smile on his face said it all. He loved it! Our Alpine Coaster manager, John, even brought in some freshly ripened Calhoun peaches for him to enjoy. It was the perfect, in-season treat for a traveler who has been on the road for so long.

Overcoming Challenges

Peter is a man who knows a thing or two about overcoming challenges. His life's trajectory was cultivated after being run over by a car at the age of 14. This accident shattered his spine and threatened the idea that he would never walk again. But he defied those odds! In a remarkable comeback in 2021, he completed a unicycle trip across the United States. This mission wasn't just for himself—it was to raise funds and awareness for the very organization that aided him in his own recovery. His journey proves that his spirit for adventure is nowhere close to slowing down.

A Legacy of Adventure

Over the years, we've had the honor of meeting people from all walks of life; from families on vacation to world-class adventurers like Peter. Each one leaves a mark, and it's our privilege to host them here on the bluffs, celebrating the best that travelers have to offer. Thank you, Peter, for allowing us to be a part of your amazing journey. We wish you success and safety on the remainder of your trip and all of the adventures yet to come.
